Why This Role is Valuable
The purpose of this position is to provide engineering services to
the City by focusing engineering expertise on specific issues. This
is accomplished by managing aspects of the City where engineering
expertise would be beneficial. Other duties may include managing
department projects, administering contracts, reviewing development
plans, providing information and assistance to citizens, builders,
developers and engineers, administering grant programs, providing
assistance to the City Engineer and interfacing with other City
employees and citizens. This position is directly under the
supervision of a registered Professional Engineer.
How You Add Value
* Provides premier customer service to internal and external
customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional
manner. Manages department projects by preparing and obtaining
easements and right-of-ways, preparing and reviewing construction
documents, coordinating projects with City departments, outside
consultants and other agencies and preparing status reports.
* Help develop and execute terms of contracts, ensuring timely
completion of projects, resolving issues and ensuring payment.
* Reviews development plans by ensuring adequacy of City
infrastructure, resolving discrepancies and design issues with
developers and design engineers, preparing reports and
presentations on findings and ensuring projects are constructed in
accordance with City requirements.
* Provides information and assistance to citizens, builders,
developers and engineers by interpreting Public Works policies and
procedures and City and design standards, locating existing
utilities and receiving and addressing citizen complaints and
* Assist in applying for grant programs by coordinating with other
county, regional and Federal entities to obtain grant money,
defining project scopes, preparing and coordinating project
* Provides assistance to the City Engineer by preparing and
presenting reports and other necessary correspondence.
* Provide assistance to the ADA Coordinator for the City
* Regular attendance required.
What You Bring to the Role
* Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or closely related field
from an accredited college or university required with basic
knowledge of civil design, construction, plan review, estimating,
drafting and surveying.
* At least one year of related experience preferred.
* Valid TX Driver's License. Successfully passed Fundamentals of
Engineering Exam or pass within one (1) year of City employment.
Attempt to acquire P.E. license and will work under the direct
supervision of a Professional Engineer
